the environment has on us human beings - and this

influence originates from my module of

studies - Gestalt Therapy.

How I became a Gestalt Psychotherapist

Throughout my childhood and adolescent years I often found myself being the person that peers and friends sought out for help in times of need. I found myself forming meaningful relationships with people and discovered that I was a great listener. I was also a very curious person growing up, I loved getting into deep conversations about any social or philosophical themes. These experiences led me towards choosing to take an undergraduate degree in Philosophy & Psychology at University of Malta. I often felt a bit conflicted in having to make a choice for a career between these two fields. I loved Philosophy but it always felt very abstract, while psychology felt almost too medical and factual based. I was searching for a way to merge these two fields together - a field where I can use the abstract abundance that Philosophy has to offer to help people deal with their Mental Health. I stumbled onto Gestalt Therapy which turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. A Holistic approach to therapy based on philosophical theories and concepts from different schools of thought focused on working with Mental Health!

My Passion towards helping others

I wouldn't be telling you anything ground-breaking by saying that people who love to help others usually have a tendency of not helping themselves in the first place. We often compensate for our lack of self-care by being more caring towards others. As a child growing up with vitiligo ( a skin condition that loses its pigmentation around certain areas of the body) I always felt different. It took me a very long time to understand that different is not necessarily a bad thing - that different can be special & unique. Although I have learned to accept now, I struggled to accept this in my youth. I grew up feeling different, and that feeling will always be a part of me. I wanted to use this experience to help other people that feel 'different' in their own way because I feel like I can connect with them in a way that most people struggle to. This led me to working with children with special needs such as Autism, ADHD, GDD, Down Syndrome and other conditions. I will forever be grateful for the experience of working with such children and youths, as they have taught me so much about life and it has become a source of passion and motivation for me to take this work of Mental Health seriously and dedicate my studies towards becoming a psychotherapist.
